Hello, I’m Huma Qureshi.
I’m an award-winning author with four published books, including Playing Games, How We Met: A Memoir of Love and Other Misadventures, Things We Do Not Tell the People We Love, and In Spite of Oceans.
I write both fiction and non-fiction, and I worked for many years as a national newspaper journalist in the UK. Alongside this, I’ve taught creative writing through organisations including the Arvon Foundation, Guardian Masterclasses and Curtis Brown Creative.
Writing can feel vulnerable and uncertain at times — especially when you’re trying to make space for it alongside a full life.
For me, writing is first and foremost a pleasurable pursuit. It’s a way of paying attention, making meaning, and staying curious about our own lives and the world around us.
I now teach creative writing through self-paced studies. I also run occasional small-group workshops, designed to feel thoughtful and unpressured. I share details of these in my letters, if you’d like to stay in touch.
I created these studies to offer structure without pressure — clear invitations to return to your writing again and again, in a way that feels sustaining rather than demanding.
Whether you’re beginning something new, finding your way back after a pause, or deepening an existing practice, my hope is that this work helps you approach writing seriously, but gently.
