One Sunday Afternoon

£110.00

Sunday 12th July
2pm–4pm

The Library, Burgh House
New End Square, Hampstead, London NW3 1LT

An intimate literary afternoon of reading, conversation and writing with award-winning author Huma Qureshi.

Picture this: a small group of us together in a beautiful library, with tea and cake to hand, and two unhurried hours to read slowly, think deeply, talk thoughtfully and make time for writing.

I've created One Sunday Afternoon because I wanted to make space for something I think many of us are missing: an afternoon set aside simply to read, notice, reflect and write.

We'll meet in the beautiful Library at Burgh House, an elegant early Georgian house in the heart of Hampstead Village, where we'll spend an afternoon together away from the distractions of everyday life.

Over the course of the afternoon, I'll share a carefully curated selection of literary extracts that have shaped, inspired or quietly stayed with me over the years. Together, we'll explore what makes them resonate, what they reveal about character, memory and place, and how they invite us to pay closer attention to the world around us.

Inspired by our conversations, I'll then invite you to spend some quiet time writing of your own. Not to produce polished work or master a particular technique, but simply to discover what happens when you give yourself the time and space to be creative.

You don't need to think of yourself as a writer to come along. Whether you write every day, keep the occasional notebook or haven't written since school, you'll be very welcome. There'll be gentle guidance throughout, plenty of time for conversation, and no pressure to share your work unless you'd like to.

As an award-winning author whose work spans literary fiction, memoir and creative non-fiction, I've spent years thinking about how stories are made—not only on the page, but in the everyday moments, memories and observations that quietly stay with us. I'd love to share some of that way of reading and noticing with you and, I hope, send you home with a few pages of your own, fresh ideas to keep exploring and a renewed desire to keep reading, noticing and writing long after the afternoon has ended.

Your ticket includes

  • Two unhurried hours of reading, conversation and writing with Huma Qureshi in the beautiful Library at Burgh House

  • Literary discussion and reflective writing

  • Tea, coffee and baked treats

Please bring a notebook and pen.

As places are intentionally limited, tickets are non-refundable unless the event is cancelled, in which case a full refund will be issued.
