I offer a small number of manuscript assessments each month for writers working on longer pieces, including short story collections, novellas, novels, and works in progress.
This is a careful, attentive reading of your work, followed by a considered editorial response. Rather than focusing on line-by-line edits, I look at the piece as a whole: its shape, voice, pacing, and emotional movement, offering reflections that help you see what’s working, and where it might want to go next.
Each assessment includes a detailed editorial letter, which you can return to as you continue developing the work, as well as a ninety minute one-to-one conversation (online) to discuss the feedback, explore any questions that arise, and think about next steps for the manuscript.
I take on just one manuscript each month, so that I can give each piece the time and attention it deserves.
This offering is for full manuscripts (between 80,000 to 100,000 words); if you have a partial or shorter manuscript (up to 30,000 words) please see here.
If your project sits outside these ranges, we can agree a fee based on length.
Before booking, please get get in touch with a short note about your project, including approximate word count and where you are in the process. Please email me here.
From there, I'll confirm availability and, once you have completed your booking, we can finalise deadlines for submission and arrange a timeframe that works for us both.
Please note that I usually allow around 7–10 working days to read the work carefully and prepare my editorial letter, although this may vary slightly depending on manuscript length and my current schedule.
